One of my favorite Scriptures in Isaiah 61 is where Jesus reveals His tender-hearted mission to save and heal humanity. To be more personal I have written this verse to emphasize Jesus’s tender-hearted desire to save and heal me. You could just as easily place your name in this verse to experience the impact. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to Steve who is poor; He has sent Me to heal Steve, who is broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to Steve who is captive and to recover Steve’s sight who is blind, to set at liberty Steve who is oppressed.”
Brokenness is a condition well described in the Bible. The Scriptures tell us a lot about a broken heart and reveals that our minds (the way we think), our emotions (how we feel), and our will (the choices we make); will be affected. Clearly, the impact of brokenness is far reaching. But the love and healing of Jesus reaches even further. He gladly accepts a piece of our heart, but He desires to put all the pieces back together, so we can possess a whole heart and give it away to Him and others.
Jesus said, “A tree is known by its fruit.” The fruit we bear in life represents repeated patterns of thoughts, feelings, emotions, choices and behaviors we display in our lives. If the patterns we exhibit are good, then the fruit is good, and the tree is good. But what if the patterns are unhealthy? Well, then the fruit is unhealthy. If the fruit is unhealthy, then the branch, the trunk and ultimately the root bearing the fruit is unhealthy. It is grounded in “brokenness.”
But the Lord Jesus Christ desires for us to bear good fruit for His Kingdom in every area of our lives. And as our “Healer,” He is ever willing to remove the obstacles that keep us broken. Remember, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is still “Jehovah Rapha.”
Jesus commission in Isaiah was fulfilled at His coming. He paid the price for our brokenness to be healed. “By His (Jesus) stripes we are healed.” As Ambassadors of Christ, our commission can now be fulfilled by helping others to appropriate His healing; thereby honoring His command and desire for us to love Him with all our heart. In this manner we can most fully live, move and have our being in Christ; glorifying our Heavenly Father with maximum impact.
All people experience levels of brokenness, including followers of Christ. Some people conceal it well and carry their hurts inside. Other people are so broken, their vulnerabilities are more outwardly visible, and this can sometimes lead to intentional or unintentional shame, rejection, isolation, negative judgment or condemnation. But regardless of the level, the causes or the areas of brokenness, the reality is all people are on this continuum and could benefit from the ministry of Jesus.
Some indicators of brokenness may include: Difficulty giving or receiving love. Inability or unwillingness to forgive. Negative emotional or physical responses that are out of proportion to a given event or situation that triggers them. Difficulty regulating “big’ emotions, returning to a state of calm or experiencing joy. Difficulty connecting to the God-head or people. Inner pain, emptiness, immobilizing fear, confusion, oppression, lack of significance or sense of purpose. Addictive behaviors and tendencies or the need to exert control and/or find escape.
Any repetitive patterns of thoughts, feelings, choices or behaviors that are contrary to your nature in Christ and/or impact your relationship with God and people.
If you have yet to experience the ministry of healing from Jesus Christ Himself in some area of brokenness, please consider what you may be missing. The Lord pointed out to His own people in the days of Jeremiah that unless He performed the healing; the brokenness would remain and so would the consequences. In essence; it would be like putting a band aid on a large gaping wound.
“They have healed the brokenness of my people superficially,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
But there is no peace.”
Jeremiah 6:14
Our Heavenly Father has ordained a specific will, way and timing to unfold and fulfill your life’s plan and purpose. But you will have to decide whether you believe “healing brokenness” is a part of His plan for you? If you do, then as Global Ambassador’s, we offer this opportunity to receive prayer ministry in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. But understand the Holy Spirit is our lead minister.
We are not mental health professionals, licensed professional counselors, therapists, social workers or psychiatrists. We are not medical providers and we do not practice medicine. We are, however, sons and daughters of the living God who desire to see our brothers and sisters receive the benefits Jesus paid for on our behalf (including healing). We do this by joyfully co-laboring with Christ; using the gifts we have received from Him to serve others; faithfully ministering God’s grace in its various forms.
He is able. The more difficult questions may be “Are you ready?” “Are you willing?” “Are we the resource Jesus is leading you to receive from?” Our Wonderful Counselor (Holy Spirit) can help you answer these questions. You are also encouraged to seek Godly counsel from those you hold in high esteem spiritually and/or from those who provide spiritual covering for you.
